GAMBITS

Presents "BOING"

Starring in SPRING THING Part I

Imagine controlling a coil spring inside of a building located in deep space.
There is no gravity or friction to slow it down! Now imagine that you must
avoid being hit by a battery of laser canons that keep shooting faster the
longer you stay alive, and try to pick up valuable gold rings!

This is how this fast paced game is played! "Turning it over" (12,500 points)
will start your game over with the number of SPRINGS you have left plus one,
which, by then, will be a welcome relief!!

Options include:

1 to 4 Players
Individual selection of laser firing speeds
Individual selection of the number of SPRING THINGS
Individual selection of hand controls
Continuous play or Stop after each SPRING

This game can be played on ANY BLUE RAM BASIC!

Archiving Information:

Spring Thing (Part I) (1984)(Ken Lill)(2000 baud)(Blue RAM BASIC)

Spring Thing (Part I) (1984)(Ken Lill)(2000 baud)(Blue RAM BASIC)[a]

Spring Thing (Part I) (1984)(Ken Lill)(2000 baud)(Blue RAM BASIC)[a2] - Found
on tape in Ken Lill's collection with typewritten label. I found just a few
differences between the .bml files of these and the previously archived version
from Mike White.

Spring Thing (Part I) (198x)(Ken Lill)(2000 baud)(Blue RAM BASIC)(proto)

Spring Thing (Part I) (198x)(Ken Lill)(2000 baud)(Blue RAM BASIC)(proto)[a]

Spring Thing (Part I) (198x)(Ken Lill)(2000 baud)(Blue RAM BASIC)(proto)[a2] -
- Found on hand-labeled tape in Ken Lill's collection. These play similarly to
the final version, but are only one load instead of two. (proto)[a2] has no
sound.

Spring Thing (proto)[a3] through (proto)[a16] were found on a hand-labeled tape
in Ken Lill's collection-a different tape than the previous versions:

Spring Thing (Part I) (198x)(Ken Lill)(2000 baud)(Blue RAM BASIC)(proto)[a3] -
Very early. The spring is just a box, and the movement's rough. The only other
things are the laser (no canons), and the object you're trying to hit.

Spring Thing (Part I) (198x)(Ken Lill)(2000 baud)(Blue RAM BASIC)(proto)[a4] -
Similar to [a3], but now there's a sprite for the spring.

Spring Thing (Part I) (198x)(Ken Lill)(2000 baud)(Blue RAM BASIC)(proto)[a5] -
Looks like [a4], but spring sprite bounces around wildly out of player's
control.

Spring Thing (Part I) (198x)(Ken Lill)(2000 baud)(Blue RAM BASIC)(proto)[a6] -
The basic elements of the game are here. The spring controls better, and the
cannons are drawn (though different than final version). There's no score and
infinite lives.

Spring Thing (Part I) (198x)(Ken Lill)(2000 baud)(Blue RAM BASIC)(proto)[a7] -
Similar to [a6], but now has 10 lives.

Spring Thing (Part I) (198x)(Ken Lill)(2000 baud)(Blue RAM BASIC)(proto)[a8] -
Similar to [a7], but adds scoring and screen to select number of players.

Spring Thing (Part I) (198x)(Ken Lill)(2000 baud)(Blue RAM BASIC)(proto)[a9] -
Looks similar to [a8], but the spring movement is buggy.

Spring Thing (Part I) (198x)(Ken Lill)(2000 baud)(Blue RAM BASIC)(proto)[a10] -
Seems similar to [a8].

Spring Thing (Part I) (198x)(Ken Lill)(2000 baud)(Blue RAM BASIC)(proto)[a11] -
Seems similar to [a8].

Spring Thing (Part I) (198x)(Ken Lill)(2000 baud)(Blue RAM BASIC)(proto)[a12] -
Plays similar to [a8], but cannon graphics are a little different.

Spring Thing (Part I) (198x)(Ken Lill)(2000 baud)(Blue RAM BASIC)(proto)[a13] -
Similar to [a12], crashed when I got hit by a laser.

Spring Thing (Part I) (198x)(Ken Lill)(2000 baud)(Blue RAM BASIC)(proto)[a14] -
Similar to [a12], now has title at bottom of screen.

Spring Thing (Part I) (198x)(Ken Lill)(2000 baud)(Blue RAM BASIC)(proto)[a15] -
Similar to [a14], adds options for speed and number of lives.

Spring Thing (Part I) (198x)(Ken Lill)(2000 baud)(Blue RAM BASIC)(proto)[a16] -
Similar to [a15], but seems faster, and adds option for mode (continuous play
or stop between springs).

Spring Thing (Part I) (198x)(Ken Lill)(2000 baud)(Blue RAM BASIC)(proto)[a17],
Spring Thing (Part I) (198x)(Ken Lill)(2000 baud)(Blue RAM BASIC)(proto)[a18]
- found in Ken Lill's tape collection on tape with type-written label that
says "BLUE RAM INSTRUCTIONS 1.1". It only includes one load from this large
program, however. The tape also had two incomplete versions of Spring Thing,
plus the program Tickets on the back.
